RESULTS from the Town Meeting

On Tuesday, March 3, 2009, voters of Danville met at the Danville School to vote on various articles. The meeting wrapped up in about two hours. All the questions regarding money to be appropriated, (see WARNING, previous blog, for specific questions) were approved. The reason Danville appropriated money to the Fairbanks Museum and Planetarium, was due to the fact that over 500 Danville residents visited the attraction. The General Fund budget was approved for a total of $550,871. The following people were elected for that day or for terms.

RESULTS from Town Meeting Day regarding the School District of Danville

In Danville students go to St. Johnsbury to take classes.

The question was if the school district should vote to increase the budget by an additional $50,000. More then 50% of the voters voted no, and thus the budget increase was denied.

NEK Waste Management District Budget Vote (WARNING)

The legal voters of the NEK Waste Management District or hereby notified and warned to vote, by AUSTRALIAN BALLOT, at the polling place and between the hours specified by their municipality on Tuesday, March 3, 2009 to act on the following article.
  1. Shall the voters authorize the Northeast Kingdom Waste Management District to appropriate and expend the budget of $610,015.

The inhabitants of Danville, VT, who are also legal voters in the Town Meeting, are invited to meet at the Danville School on Tuesday, March 3, 2009 at 10:00am. The Town Meeting will transact the following business...

See if the town of Danville will vote to accept the Town Report as printed for the year ending December 31, 2009

To elect the following...

  • Town Clerk for a three year term
  • Town Treasurer for a three year term
  • Lister for a three year term
  • Selectman for a three year term
  • Two Selectmen for one year terms each
  • Auditor for a two year term
  • Auditor for a three year term

The Town Meeting on March 3, 2009 will also ask the following questions...
Shall the Town vote to appropriate the sum of...
  • $25,000 to assist the Pope Memorial LIbrary in meeting its operational expenses
  • $2,600 to Caledonia Home Health Care and Hospice to be used in providing health care services
  • $1,200 to Umbrella, Inc. to be used in providing services to victims of domestic and sexual violence and their children, and families seekking child care and child care providers
  • $750 to Northeast Kingdom Youth Services to support their work with youth and families in the Danville community
  • $1,150 for the support of the Fairbanks Museum and Planetarium to provide services to the residents of Danville
  • $1,700 to assist the Area Agency on Aging for Northeastern Vermont in providing services to senior citizens in the ensuing year
  • $8,000 to Danville Rescue Squad to assist in providing services to the residents of Danville
  • not to exceed $250 to the Northeast Kingdom Learning Services Inc.
  • $2,322 to Northeast Kingdom Human Services Inc. to assist in providing mental health and developmental services to adults and children, substance abuse services to adolescents and adults; and 24-hour crisis intervention to the general public
  • $2,500 to support the Danville Senior Action Center Inc.
  • $500 to Catamount Film and Arts
  • $1,000 to assist the West Danville Community Club in maintaining Joe's Pond Beach
  • $1,400 for services provided by Rural Community Transportation (RCT) to residents living in Danville
The Town Meeting will also ask these following questions...
  • Shall the Town vote to establish a capital reserve fun for major fire equipment replacement?
  • Shall the Town vote to fund the capital reserve fun for major fire equipment replacement in the amount of $20,000?
  • Shall the Town vote to establish a Conservation Fund to help preserve the scenic and productive value of our farm and forest land, wildlife habitat and natural resources as recommended to the Town Plan?
  • Shall the Town vote to adopt the proposed General Fund Budget for the ensuing year as printed in the Town Report, and authorize the Selectboard to assess a general Town Tax in an amount sufficient to support the adopted budged including any special appropriation articles approved by the voters?
  • Shall the Town vote to adopt the proposed Town Highway budget for the ensuing year as printed in the Town Report, and authorize the Selectboard to assess a Town Highway Tax in an amount sufficient to support the adopted budget?
The Town Meeting in Danville will also see if the Town of Danville will...
  • vote to pay property taxes to the Town Treasurer on/before October 26, 2009
  • authorize the Selectboard to borrow money for the Town expenses and refund indebtedness not to exceed 90% of the anticipated taxes and to execute and deliver the note or notes of the Town therefore
Finally the Town Meeting will transact any other business that may legally come before the meeting.
